York St John University is bringing in Amanda Selvaratnam as director of business development and knowledge exchange, effective 1 March.

Selvaratnam’s last day at the University of York was on Friday.

Her new role will see Selvaratnam focus on strengthening business services and knowledge exchange, expanding consultancy reach, building and scaling the continuing professional development offering, and growing the apprenticeship portfolio.

Selvaratnam has spent 33 years in total at the University of York, including serving as head of corporate training from 1999 to February 2018, and then as associate director of research and enterprise and head of enterprise services.

During this time, she also held other roles, including director of the institution’s IT Academy from 2004 to 2005, and director of the Training Gateway, which helps organisations address their skills needs, from March 2008 to March 2025.

She has also served as chair of Knowledge Exchange UK since January 2024. You can learn more about the organisation in our interview with chief executive officer Stuart Wilkinson.

Selvaratnam received her BSc from the University of York in 1986, and then worked as a research assistant at the institution for six years before joining biotech startup Ribonetics as head of cell culture in 1992.

The following year, she moved to GlaxoSmithKline, where she held a range of roles, including competitive intelligence officer and strategic information analyst, until 1999.
