Aberdeen appoints Lucy Leiper as director of innovation

As of March 2026, Leiper has been appointed to the role permanently. She had held the role on an interim basis for the first two months. This article has been amended.

Lucy Leiper has been appointed director of research, innovation and enterprise at the University of Aberdeen.

Leiper has been with the university for nearly three decades, having gained her PhD in molecular endocrinology from the institution in 2001.

She was a postdoc researcher from 2004 to 2009, before becoming a senior research development adviser in 2010.

Since January 2017, she has been the head of research culture and development, as well as the manager of the Postgraduate Research College.

Elizabeth Rattray retired as the director of research and innovation last year. She had been in the role since October 2016.
