Macquarie University has hired Melissa Mail as director of research ventures and investment, recruiting her from the Children’s Medical Institute.

Mail started in her new role last week, according to LinkedIn.

An archived job advert described the role as providing expert business, financial, investment, and corporate advisory services. Responsibilities also include supporting the creation, financing, and growth of spinouts, startups, joint ventures, and licensing agreements.

The job advert also said the role would contribute to developing innovative frameworks and policies that shape the university’s research enterprise.

Before joining Macquarie University, Mail had been the head of commercialisation at the Children’s Medical Institute for two years.

Before this, she was an investment manager with university venture fund Uniseed from July 2022 to February 2024.

She had, however, already served on Uniseed’s deep tech investment committee from December 2019 to March 2021. She was the commercial theme manager at the University of Sydney at that time.
