Nationwide Children’s Hospital, affiliated with the Ohio State University’s College of Medicine, has hired Neil Veloso as vice president for innovation and technology commercialisation.
Veloso will start in his new role on 2 February. He previously served as executive director of Brown Technology Innovations, the commercialisation arm of Brown University, from January 2020 to September 2025.
At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Veloso will be responsible for the Office of Technology Commercialization. He will oversee all innovation activities, collaborating with other executives, industry partners, local and state political and economic development resources, and the venture capital community.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital is ranked the top paediatric hospital in the United States and the top organisation in Ohio for gross revenue generated from commercialisation ventures, Dennis Durbin, president of the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s, said in a statement announcing Veloso’s appointment.
“Neil is an accomplished technology commercialization executive with more than 20 years of experience. He has a remarkable track record in startup creation, strategic partnerships, and intellectual property licensing.
“He has guided significant inventions in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices at some of the nation’s most renowned research institutions, including Johns Hopkins University and the Cleveland Clinic.”
Dennis Durbin
Before joining Brown University, Veloso was the executive director of Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures at Johns Hopkins University from May 2015 to May 2018.
Earlier in his career, he held a series of roles in the commercialisation team at Cleveland Clinic from 2006 to 2015, and was a senior licensing manager in Case Western Reserve University’s Technology Transfer Office from 2002 to 2006.
