The University of Eastern Finland has updated its investment strategy to promote research commercialisation and local startup activity by investing only in funds with a focus on the North Savo and North Karelia regions.
A growing number of institutions invest in spinouts through their own, dedicated venture funds. Ongoing research by The Next Leap, due to be published next year, has thus far identified at least 150 institutions across the continent that have such a fund, although they remain rare in Finland.
