The Wildcat Philanthropic Seed Fund, launched by the University of Arizona’s commercialisation arm Tech Launch Arizona, has made its first three investments.
All three are spinouts from the university. The first, CarbeniumTec, is developing an organic-based reduction-oxidation battery, while LifeSpan Digital Health is building a platform to prevent burnout among healthcare professionals.
Finally, UGenome AI has created a genomic platform to determine a patient’s medication response, food, and longevity information using genetic markup.
“We are deeply grateful to the donors who have made the contributions that have allowed us to launch and grow the fund. Their passion for the University of Arizona innovation and entrepreneurship, paired with their generosity, are truly transforming our ecosystem.”
Doug Hockstad, associate vice president of Tech Launch Arizona
The Wildcat Philanthropic Seed Fund focuses on seed-stage startups, targeting the valley of death. It has now raised nearly 60% of its initial goal of $5 million, equating to some $3 million.
It previously confirmed it had raised $2 million in February 2025, a year after an anonymous donor kickstarted fundraising efforts with a $1 million commitment.
In addition to being a philanthropic venture fund, it is also set up as an evergreen vehicle so that any proceeds are reinvested into the fund.
The Wildcat Philanthropic Seed Fund also functions as a learning experience for students, giving them the opportunity to conduct due diligence with the investment committee.
