Harmen Steele has left the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to become the director of technology transfer at the University of Montana.
Steele was commercialisation manager in Innovate Carolina’s Office of Technology Commercialization for three and a half years. He managed a cross-disciplinary portfolio of more than 200 technologies and supported the launch of five spinouts per year.
Before UNC-Chapel Hill, Steele spent just over two years at the National Cancer Institute, completing a technology transfer bootcamp in early 2021 before serving as a technology transfer fellowship – negotiator from May 2021 to February 2023.
“Montana has a growing innovation and commercialisation ecosystem, and I am excited to play an active role in helping build capacity, support researchers, grow partnerships, and move University of Montana discoveries into the hands of people who can use them,” Steele wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing his new role.
