James Parrett has been promoted to vice president of the University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF)’s Memphis office, where he will now oversee technology transfer and commercialisation activities.

His remit includes the UT Health Sciences, UT Martin and UT Southern campuses.

Parrett, who has been a staff attorney at UTRF since 2022, will remain legal counsel “in designated situations,” though the foundation did not clarify what that means. He first joined UTRF as a technology manager in 2021.

“I’m so pleased to have James as the vice president of UTRF’s Memphis office,” says Maha Krishnamurthy, president and CEO of UTRF. “James brings more than 10 years of technology transfer experience and is a highly service-oriented, respected and trusted colleague. Faculty and staff value working with him, and I have consistently received positive feedback about his performance and professionalism.”

Before joining UTRF, Parrett spent three years as the manager of pharmaceutical development and intellectual property at CU Innovations, the tech transfer office for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
