Mississippi recruits Dominique Halaby to oversee innovation

Dominique Halaby

The University of Mississippi (also known as Ole Miss) has hired Dominique Halaby as assistant vice chancellor for innovation and economic engagement, effective 1 August.

Halaby will join from Georgia Southern University, where he has worked since 2011 and helped establish the tech transfer office. He has served as associate vice president for innovation and commercialisation since 2021.

He has also been the director of the Business Innovation Group since 2014, and helped build a statewide innovation and entrepreneurship network across 16 locations.

In his new role, he will be tasked with expanding tech transfer, IP management, and venture building activities. He will also be supporting the development of a spinout investment fund first announced in April.

“I want people to think about Ole Miss in terms of growth and innovation,” Halaby says. “I want us to be able to point to exciting new products and companies and say, ‘Those started here.’”
