Indiana University has appointed Jamie Hoberg as its next associate vice president for innovation and commercialisation, effective 8 September.
As part of this role, Hoberg will lead the Innovation and Commercialization Office.
Hoberg will succeed Nick Hammond, who has been in the role since November 2023. The Next Leap first reported that IU was seeking a successor to Hammond in May.
Hoberg will bring two decades of experience in tech transfer to his new role. Most recently, he has been director of business development and strategy at pharmaceutical manufacturer ARx since January 2026.
Before this, he spent a year as senior director of business development and licensing at biomedical research institute The Jackson Laboratory.
Hoberg began his career as a business development associate in Harvard’s Office of Technology Development in 2005, but from 2007 worked primarily in industry, spending nearly all of it at MilliporeSigma.
“Jamie brings extensive experience working at the intersection of academic research and industry,” says Russell Mumper, IU’s vice president for research. “That perspective will be incredibly valuable as IU continues to expand how we connect our researchers and discoveries with partners who can help translate them into real-world impact. His leadership will strengthen our commercialisation efforts across the university and help create new opportunities for IU faculty, industry and the state of Indiana.”
Indiana University is overhauling its commercialisation ecosystem. In June, David Rosenberg was appointed president and CEO of IU Inc., a new nonprofit arm of the institution that aims to drive more external partnerships.
