Indiana University has launched a nationwide search for its next associate vice president for innovation and commercialisation, the position in charge of the Innovation and Commercialization Office.
Nick Hammond has been in the post since November 2023, bringing more than 15 years of experience in tech transfer to the role. He joined IU from the Department of Innovation and Technology Research at the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute, where he served as senior director.
Hammond’s earlier career stops included associate vice president for innovation and economic development at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science; assistant director of the University System of Maryland Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology; and chief science officer of biotech company Ablitech.
Hammond did not respond to a request for comment, and it is unclear what he intends to do next.
“IU is seeking a collaborative and visionary leader who can strengthen partnerships across industry and government, support our faculty innovators and entrepreneurs, and help accelerate the commercialisation of IU innovations in ways that benefit Indiana and beyond.
“This role will be instrumental in advancing efforts to achieve ambitious IU 2030 strategic plan Pillar 2 goals.”
Russ Mumper, vice president for research at Indiana University
Indiana University recently surpassed $1 billion in annual sponsored research expenditures and has boosted investments in life sciences, biotech, and applied research initiatives in line with its strategic plan.
