Trent University is bringing in Tana Allen , currently the acting vice president for research at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, as its next vice president for research and innovation.
Allen will take on her new role on 1 September 2026, leaving her current employer after 24 years.
Allen joined the Memorial University of Newfoundland in September 2002 as an assistant professor in classics, before taking on the role of head of department in 2004.
She has steadily climbed both the academic and administrator ladders: in September 2020, she became a professor. From July 2020 to May 2022, she was the associate dean for research in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
She then became associate vice president for research in May 2022, taking on her current role as acting vice president four months later.
Allen has also served as chair of Acenet, held executive roles with the Ocean Frontier Institute and the Health Research Ethics Authority, and is the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council leader at Memorial.
“I am honoured to join Trent at this exciting moment as the university focuses on further advancing its research profile. Trent has an extraordinary reputation for excellence across disciplines, and a strong focus on interdisciplinary research that resonates deeply with my own values.
“I look forward to meeting and working with the entire community. Students, faculty, staff and partners at Trent are engaged in excellent research and I can’t wait to share even more of that with Canada and the world.”
